Critical Minerals Innovation Fund (CMIF)
Receive up to $500,000 in Critical Minerals Funding.
The Critical Minerals Innovation Fund (CMIF) will provide a total of $5 million to support innovation, economic growth, and the Made-in-Ontario supply chain. Ontario’s critical minerals sector will be strengthened and research and development will be enhanced through this program.

Amount of Funding
Successful applicants for the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund (CMIF) may receive up to 50% of eligible costs up to $500,000.

Eligible Applicants
A candidate must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- It is a private company; and
- Collaboration between a private business and a public academic or research institution, non-profit organization, or association. Collaborations involving two or more entities must be led by one entity, and funded by the other.

Eligible Activities
Project Eligibility requirements for candidates are as follows:
- The project will take place in Ontario;
- During the course of the project, innovative technologies, techniques, processes, or solutions related to any of the following key priorities will be researched, developed, and/or commercialized:
- Chain of supply for batteries;
- Mining and exploration at depth;
- Recovering minerals; and
- Supporting the critical minerals sector with innovative projects.
- Funding for the project does not come from any other government program in Ontario.
