Low Carbon Economy Challenge – Low Carbon Economy Fund
Receive up to $250k to $50M in Government Funding.
The Low Carbon Economy Challenge is a Canadian government funding program designed to support projects that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Provided through Canada’s Low Carbon Economy Fund (LCEF), the program challenges applicants to implement specific activities or technologies that have previously demonstrated effectiveness in reducing GHG emissions. There are two streams of funding provided through the Low Carbon Economy Challenge, including a Champions stream and a Partnerships stream.
Funding Amount
Champions Stream: Up to 25% of eligible expenses (businesses) or up to 50% of eligible expenses (regional/municipal governments) to a maximum $25 million per project. Applicants must have a minimum funding ask of $1 million.
Partnership Stream: Up to 25%, with a minimum of $20,000 to a maximum $250,000 in funding.
Eligible Applicants
Champions Stream: For-profit businesses, provinces and territories, regional and municipal governments, Indigenous communities and organizations, public sector organizations, and non-profits.
Partnership Stream: For-profit, established Canadian small and medium-sized businesses with fewer than 1-499 employees.
Eligible Activities
GHG mitigation projects including building energy efficiency and fuel switching, industrial projects, forestry, agriculture, waste, transportation, low-emissions fuel production, electricity and/or energy production.
Deadline to Apply
Champions Stream: currently open and accepting expressions of interest for projects. Submissions are open until March 25, 2022 at 8pmET.
Partnership Stream: This stream is currently closed.
