The Energy Saving for Business (ESB) – Expanded Technologies Pilot Program (ETP), offered by Emission Reduction Alberta, supports small and medium-sized industrial and commercial businesses in reducing emissions and operating costs, growing their operations, and becoming more competitive, as well as creating skilled jobs and boosting economic growth.

Amount of Funding
An amount of 50% of the total eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $250,000 per project, and up to $1 million for the parent company, shall be reimbursed.

Eligible Applicants
Collaboration between organizations is encouraged. Lead applicants and their project partners may include any combination of:
- Developers in the field of technology;
- A provider of products and services (equipment installers, engineering firms, and commercial energy auditors);
- Owners of the facility; and
- Operators, etc.

Eligible Activities
For applicants to be eligible for this program, they must be engaging in a pilot program to evaluate innovative commercial technology systems which, at a minimum, meet the following criteria:
- An installation, retrofit, or equipment upgrade that results in a reduction in the release of greenhouse gases as a result of its installation or retrofit
- The system is composed of a single type of technology or an integrated type of technology.
- Results in GHG emissions reductions at a rate at or below $200 of total Requested ERA Funding per tonne of CO2e reduced over the Project life
- Resulting in a positive Return on Investment (ROI) for the project as a whole
- The Technology System(s) is commercialized (the product is proven through successful deployment in operational settings, is available to anyone for purchase, can be manufactured widely, and is TRL level 9+. The technology cannot be in the research, development, pilot, or prototype stage).

Program Deadline
There is a deadline of May 1, 2023 for the submission of Expressions of Interest (EOI). There is a deadline of June 15, 2023 for the full application. There is a deadline of September 30, 2023 for all projects to be operational and completed.
