Manufacturing Company Expands with Ontario Provincial Support

In a city known for its manufacturing legacy, Kitchener’s Golden Windows Ltd. has long been a staple, crafting quality windows and doors for over six decades. But in today’s competitive market, even longstanding companies need to innovate and grow to meet new demands. Golden Windows, with the help of the Ontario government, is taking a bold step forward – boosting its production capacity, creating jobs, and solidifying its role as a leader in the manufacturing sector.

A Vision for Growth

Golden Windows Ltd. recently announced a significant investment of over $30 million to expand its manufacturing operations at its Kitchener facility. This ambitious project will see the construction of a new 240,000-square-foot facility, designed to accommodate new product lines specifically aimed at Toronto’s burgeoning high-rise construction market. The expansion isn’t just about increased square footage; it’s about positioning Golden Windows as a key player in a rapidly growing sector and responding to the evolving needs of its clients.

Partnership with the Ontario Government

Recognizing the potential impact of this expansion, the Ontario government stepped up to support Golden Windows with over $4.5 million in funding through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund (SWODF) stream of the Regional Development Program (RDP). This financial boost is more than just a show of confidence in Golden Windows—it’s part of a broader provincial strategy to foster local businesses, stimulate job creation, and drive economic growth in southwestern Ontario.

“Ontario is the manufacturing powerhouse of the nation, and new investments by domestic manufacturers demonstrate that our government is fostering the right conditions for growth and more good-paying jobs for our talented workforce.” – Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.

Creating Jobs and Enhancing Capabilities

The expansion will create 50 new high-quality jobs in Kitchener, further strengthening the local economy. But the benefits go beyond job creation. With this investment, Golden Windows will enhance its production processes with advanced automation, boosting efficiency and product quality.

“In this high-interest rate environment, this access to capital will allow us to take our production processes to the next level of automation, efficiency, and quality,”

Paul Kreutner, President of Golden Windows Ltd.

The facility will not only increase capacity but will also enable Golden Windows to introduce new product lines tailored to meet the demands of the commercial and high-rise construction markets—a strategic move that could significantly widen their market reach.

A Broader Impact: Ontario’s Commitment to Manufacturing

Golden Windows’ expansion is a testament to the broader impact of Ontario’s Regional Development Program. Since its launch in 2019, the program has supported over 130 projects, leveraging more than $1.8 billion in new investments and creating over 3,400 jobs across the province. The program, which targets eastern and southwestern regions of Ontario, provides financial support and access to a range of complementary services, helping businesses to innovate and thrive.

In 2022, the program was further enhanced with the introduction of the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) stream, aimed at supporting advanced manufacturers across the province. This year, the Ontario government continued to bolster its support for manufacturers with the introduction of the Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit, which provides a 10% refundable Corporate Income Tax credit to help local manufacturers lower their costs, invest in workers, and drive competitiveness.

A Bright Future for Golden Windows and Ontario Manufacturing

Golden Windows Ltd.’s expansion is a clear example of what can be achieved when businesses and government work together towards a common goal. For over 60 years, Golden Windows has been a part of the Kitchener community, not just as an employer but as a contributor to the local quality of life through its products. Now, with this new investment, the company is set to grow its footprint, create more jobs, and bring its high-quality products to new markets, including Toronto’s dynamic high-rise sector.

As Golden Windows continues to innovate and expand, it reflects a larger story of Ontario’s commitment to supporting homegrown businesses and fostering an environment where they can thrive. The ongoing support from programs like the RDP ensures that companies like Golden Windows have the resources they need to push the boundaries of what’s possible in manufacturing.
