IRAP Youth Employment Program Doubles Government Funding Budget
The Industrial Research Assistance Program’s (IRAP) Youth Employment Program (YEP) is designed to provide financial assistance to innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in Canada that are interested in hiring a post-secondary science, engineering, technology and trade, business and liberal arts graduate. Graduates work on innovative projects within the enterprise and may participate in research, development and commercialization of technologies. In addition to meeting the needs of innovative SMEs, this program facilitates the transition of highly skilled young people to a rapidly changing labour market.
The program provides financial assistance to innovative small and medium-sized enterprises in Canada to hire post-secondary graduates.
Eligibility for YEP Small Business Funding Grants
The Youth Employment Program is available to Canadian companies that have less than 500 employees and are incorporated. The federal government will pay up to 50% of a new employees wages to a maximum of $15,000. The internship position must be from 6-12 months in length, located anywhere in Canada and be in a technical or marketing-related field. Please note that the eligible role must be a unique position within the company.
