Similar to the Canada-Ontario Job Grant, the Canada-British Columbia Job Grant is a small business funding opportunity that provides businesses with government funding for training and developing employees. The province of British Columbia has recently announced success figures from this program, citing that over 1,400 employers have been approved for government funding which has resulted in over 7,300 workers receiving valuable work-related training. Although the program is not currently open for intake of applications, it will resume in January 2016 allowing for even more employers and employees the opportunity to build their skillsets.

The Canada-British Columbia Job Grant is one provincial variant of the Canada Job Grant (CJG), a flexible training grant program which seeks to provide employers with up to 2/3 of the cost of third-party training programs (up to $10,000 per employee trained). Any existing business or start-up may be eligible for the program, however there must be a training need, or initiative that will be supported by better trained employees. Examples of training initiatives include:
- Essential skills training,
- Business training,
- Technical training,
- Management and leadership training; and
- Short-term certificate training.
“The Canada Job Grant will help workers in British Columbia get the skills they need to fill available jobs in today’s economy… I encourage all local employers to consider their current and future skills needs and apply for a Canada Job Grant to help train new or current employees for available jobs.”
– Colin Mayes, Member of Parliament for Okanagan–Shuswap
