The Traceability Foundations Initiative (TFI) Intake 2 is a three-year Federal and Provincial funding program. This initiative provides small business funding grants to support up to 75 percent of the projects eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $5 million per eligible project. This government funding for business is cost shared and is for funding to sector organizations and value chains. It supports voluntary, industry-led information sharing networks that will enhance agri-food traceability, a crucial component in food safety programs.
These funds will be allocated based on applications being received and project evaluation criteria. There is a total of $21.5 million available for eligible projects.
TFI Canadian Business Grants Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this grant funding for business, the submitting party needs to possess a minimum of 3 value chain partners within 2 or more of the following areas:
- Inputs
- Retail
- Production
- Distribution/warehouse
- Processing
The lead applicant must have its head office located in Ontario and operate within the province of Ontario.
Accepting Applications: June 1, 2012 until July 24, 2012

The Traceability Foundations Initiative (TFI) will enhance information sharing, increase adoption and sustainability of voluntary traceability systems to national and international standards across a sector or along a value chain. There will be an increase in the ability of sectors and value chains to implement emergency response procedures when required.
