Northern Ontario Development Program Ontario Government Funding
Several Canadian Government funding organizations exist to help various business sectors, such as the previously mentioned FedDev Ontario, that supports Southern Ontarios economy. Another organization available to help small businesses is FedNor, which provides Canadian funding for business sectors in Northern Ontario. The Northern Ontario Development Program provides small business funding grants for the adoption and commercialization of new technologies.
FedNors Northern Ontario Development Program serves three priorities:
1. Community Economic Development
The Northern Ontario Development Program supports communities efforts to plan and mobilize their resources. Thus, the accepted projects should strengthen community economic competitiveness and enhance collaboration among stakeholders to achieve short to intermediate goals.

Hello, my name is Michel Poirier and I am the general manager of Northern Lights located in Sault Ste Marie, ON. Northern Lights is a laser multimedia studio which creates custom lasershows, animations, laser projected advertising and speial effects for any occasion or event. We are currently embarking on teaching laser animation workshops at several northern ontario community art galleries. In order to provide access to the design software at the various art galleries we are required to purchase a server. We are searching for grant funding which could cover the cost of the server which approx $15,000.
Hi Michel,
Government funding programs typically do not cover servers, as they consider them a mandatory business expense and not one that promotes innovation. However, you could contact NOHFC and explore options with them, as it could be a potential project under either the NOHFC Emerging Technology Program or NOHFC Enterprises North Job Creation Program.
