Two companies within the forest industry have recently received northern Ontario government funding for their business expansion projects. Manitou Forest Products and Henry’s Trucking will move forward with projects to support the local industry and create 10 jobs for the town of Emo, Ontario.
A combined total of $1,376,157 in grants for forestry equipment has been awarded to two businesses through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation was specifically created to benefit businesses in northern Ontario. NOHFC funding enables businesses to receive financial support for a wide range of projects that will improve local business settings. The two companies awarded will be using the funding to purchase new logging equipment and create jobs.
Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation Invests $1.4M into Two Forestry Businesses
The town of Emo, Ontario is a small rural township located along the banks of Rainy River in northwestern Ontario, directly north of Minnesota. The town has a beautifully developed waterfront with hiking and biking trails, as well as fishing and hunting lodges. It also serves as the main service centre for the agricultural needs of the Rainy River District.
Two companies in Emo, Ontario have received $1.4M in business expansion grants from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
The two recipients of northern Ontario government funding include:
Manitou Forest Products
Manitou Forest Products is a producer of specialty forest products, selling interior and exterior pine siding, drill core trays, pine lumber, dimension lumber, and some cedar and ash products. In addition to operating a remanufacturing facility, their services include planning, lumber drying, sawmilling, and molding.
Manitou Forest Products has received $913,657 in grants for forestry equipment.
The company will be using the northern Ontario government funding to purchase new equipment and building refurbishments. This will increase production and allow for the year-round operation of their sawmill building. In addition, seven full-time jobs will be created.
Henry’s Trucking
Henry’s Trucking is a freight hauling business from Emo, Ontario, whose primary business is hauling lumber.
NOHFC funding has named Henry’s Trucking a recipient of $462,500 for their business expansion projects.
The company will be using the business expansion grants to grow its forest harvesting operations by purchasing new logging equipment to extend their capabilities. The funding will also allow three full-time jobs to be created.
About the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC)
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation is a crown corporation and economic development agency that exclusively supports the progression of northern Ontario businesses. NOHFC encourages business growth through awarding government funding and providing other support methods.
Examples of the program’s priority sectors include advanced manufacturing, digital economy, renewable energy, forestry, agriculture, water technologies, and transportation.
The program provides up to 50% coverage of project costs to a maximum $1 million in northern Ontario business grants.
NOHFC provides a wide range of government funding programs available to northern Ontario businesses to support strategic growth projects. Three of the top programs include:
- Northern Innovation Program: Supports the development and commercialization of new technologies by fostering collaboration between businesses, academic institutions, and research facilities in northern Ontario.
- Northern Ontario Internship Program: Supports businesses who provide internship opportunities for recent graduates in northern Ontario in a variety of key industries.
- Northern Business Opportunity Program: Supports business expansion for startups and established businesses not currently located in northern Ontario.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation is accepting applications on a continuous basis until March 31, 2019.
