“The New Building Canada Plan” is Our Largest Infrastructure Plan Ever

The New Building Canada Plan is the largest and longest federal infrastructure plan in Canada’s history. The plan includes $53 billion over the next decade to support provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure that will improve economic growth while helping to create jobs and improve productivity.

Peter Braid, Peter Braid, Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Communities and Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo, spoke at the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies to update the country on latest developments regarding the New Building Canada Plan.

Gas Tax Fund Doubled and Made Permanent

As a part of the New Building Canada Plan, the renewed federal Gas Tax Fund will also provide predictable, long-term and stable funding for municipalities in Canada. The fund has been doubled and made permanent to support municipalities and their need to meet long-term infrastructure needs and priorities. As part of the New Building Canada Plan, the renewed federal Gas Tax Fund provides predictable, long-term, stable funding for Canadian municipalities to help them build and revitalize their local public infrastructure while creating jobs and long term prosperity.

The Gas Tax Fund, along with the Incremental Goods and Services Tax Rebate for Municipalities will provide $32 billion to municipalities for projects such as roads, public transit and recreational activities as well as other community infrastructure.

Funding Provided for Projects of National and Provincial-Territorial Significance

There is also a $4 billion National Infrastructure Component and a $10 billion Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component which will support projects of national and provincial-territorial significance. Additionally, another $1.25 billion in funding for Public-Private-Partnerships (P3) Canada Fund administered by PPP Canada and another $6 billion in funding that continues to flow across the country this year and beyond under existing infrastructure programs.
