The Mitacs Elevate Program began as a pilot program offered in southern Ontario beginning in 2009, and expanded nationally in 2012 after much success. To date, the Mitacs Elevate Program has provided more than $23 million in research funding to post-doctoral fellows.

The Mitacs Elevate government grants Canada Program offers support small businesses and academic partnerships that aim to solve problems through innovation.
Focus Industries: Health Science & Tech, Clean Tech, Dig Media & ICT, Advanced Manufacturing, Finance, Automotive.
Amount: $57,500/year for 2 years. Industry partner contributes $25,000.
Timeline: Bi-Annual call for proposals (spring & fall).
Eligibility: Post PhD + Canadian based for-profit business both located in the same province. Available to Canadian companies of all sizes.
Projects: 2-year research project to solve specific industry problem.
Deadline: Applications will be accepted until August 19, 2014 for this latest call for proposals

Key Benefits of Mitacs Elevate Canadian Business Grants Program
Benefits from this Canadian grants for small business program includes knowledge transfer from the research fellow, exposure to new ideas and fresh approaches to solving problems, and access to cutting-edge facilities. Mitacs Elevate partners receive generous financial contributions. For every $1 of a partner organization’s $25,000 contribution, Mitacs provides $1.30 in matching funds for a total Canadian business grants funding of $57,500 per year. This includes up to $7,500 for research costs, equipment, additional research personnel, conference travel and publishing costs.
