Ottawa-based communications technology firm Martello Technologies has recently received federal government funding to accelerate the development of their network performance management services. In today’s age of rapid digital transformation, an increasing need for bandwidth-intensive real-time services, such as video streaming, has generated a network performance management challenge; which Martello saw an opportunity to capitalize on. The funding will allow the company to accelerate the development of a service-aware SD-WAN solution, integrate this solution into the market faster, and hire new employees.
Martello Technologies has received a $2,000,000 grant from the NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).
The Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) offers business research and development funding to support the progress and commercialization of innovative technologies, while accelerating businesses’ growth and competitiveness. The program offers grants to Canadian companies that develop or innovate leading-edge technologies.
$2M in Research & Development Funding Awarded to Martello by IRAP
Martello Technologies is headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, with locations throughout Canada, France, and the United States. Known for its technology and strategy, their solutions deliver real-time services on cloud and enterprise networks and their products include unified communications (UC) performance management software and SD-WAN technology. Martello’s solutions detect, identify, and address network performance problems before service quality is impacted.
Martello Technologies is the recipient of $2M in funding for digital transformation from the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).
IRAP funding will allow the company to hire 11 new STEM employees and speed the development of its network performance management services. Specifically, funding will help Martello Technologies automate rising bandwidth demand management for its platform users, which will reduce the need for intervention by an IT specialist. This project is providing a solution to the rising demand for real-time services that require a significant amount of bandwidth, such as unified communications.
“As the pace of digital transformation grows, this funding will help our solution reach the market faster, allowing us to capitalize on this significant opportunity.”
– John Proctor, CEO, Martello Technologies
IRAP: Research and Development Funding for Canadian Businesses
The Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) is a federal government funding program designed to fast-track and commercialize SME Canadian innovators’ research and development projects. IRAP targets businesses who are developing and implementing process improvements, however, large-scale technology adoption projects that lead to new capabilities are also considered.
Through IRAP’s multiple streams, Canadian businesses may receive up to 50-80% of eligible costs to a maximum of $10 million.
Businesses performing innovative technology-driven research and development projects in Canada should always consider IRAP grants during the planning process. Two of the program’s most popular streams include:
- IRAP Accelerated Review Process (ARP): Focuses on smaller-scale projects that aim to solve internal technical challenges.
- IRAP Mid-Size Projects: Focuses on large-scale R&D innovative product development projects.
The next round of funding through the Industrial Research Assistance Program will be released in April 2019.
