Treasure Mills Inc. has been recently announced as recipients of the Growing Forward 2 Ontario government funding program. The company will leverage up to $100,000 in Ontario small business grants to purchase/install automated baking and washing equipment while also improving their drainage and refrigeration systems.
The Aurora, Ontario food processor is the latest of many from York Region to have successfully received Growing Forward 2 Ontario funding. To date, 50 projects in York have received GF2 investments, totalling more than $2.5 million in economic support.
Growing Forward 2 Ontario government funding will soon reach its final deadline to submit applications in 2016. Agricultural and agri-food processors wishing to receive GF2 Ontario grants must apply by November 3, 2016 to be considered for funding this year.
Growing Forward 2 Ontario: $100,000 Successful Project Details
Treasure Mills Inc. is a leading provider of nut-free baked goods, including school-safe cupcakes, muffins, snack cakes, and cookie bars. Operating out of their 30,000 sq. ft. production facility in Aurora, Ontario, the company has experienced extreme demand growth over the last several years. Due to this demand, the company searched for additional investments that would help them become more efficient and increase production.
The company’s project funding through Growing Forward 2 Ontario will bring up to $100,000 in government grants to purchase and install new productivity-enhancing machinery. Treasure Mills Inc. suggests that the new automated equipment will be able to reduce production costs by 10% and increase product output by upwards of 200%.
This small business funding contribution will help Treasure Mills Inc. to become significantly more productive and able to supply more grocery retailers in Canada and the United States.

About Growing Forward 2 Ontario Business Grants
Growing Forward 2 Ontario provides small business funding to food producers, processors, and organizations. The federal-provincial initiative leverages funding from both levels of government to boost the productivity, innovation, and export capacity of Ontario-based businesses.
Ontario agriculture and agri-food businesses may receive up to 35-50% of project expenses to a maximum $350,000 in small business grants. Projects typically revolve around productivity and labour enhancements, market development, environment and climate change adaptation, or implementing assurance systems.
The Growing Forward 2 Ontario program requires businesses to submit applications during recurring intake periods scheduled throughout the year. There is one intake period remaining this year; businesses seeking project funding must apply between October 14 and November 3, 2016.
