Government Funding for Business: AgriMarketing Program
The AgriMarketing Program is a five-year (2013-2018), $341-million program, under Growing Forward 2 (GF2) that consists of a combination of government initiatives and contribution funding for industry-led projects. Its objective is to improve the agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products sector’s competitiveness in domestic and international markets by supporting industry in gaining and maintaining access to markets and capitalizing on market opportunities. It will achieve this objective through Canadian small business grants grouped into two streams: The Market Development Stream and the Assurance Systems Stream.
Objective & Type of Funding for Small Business AgriMarketing Streams
Both the Market Development and the Assurance Systems Streams are contribution funding streams that support industry-led projects, for which industry applications will be accepted, under the AgriMarketing Program.
AgriMarketing Market Development Stream Canadian Business Grants for SME’s
The Market Development Stream seeks to build and promote Canada’s ability to expand domestic and export markets by undertaking promotional activities to help position and differentiate Canadian products and producers, and to ensure industry’s ability to meet market requirements. The Market Development Stream small business funding grants focus on expanding and developing new markets internationally and domestically. It will provide support to SMEs by allowing them to identify market priorities and increase their chance of global success. The Market Development Stream provides a Canadian government funding for business maximum contribution of $50,000/ year or 50% of the project costs in the form of non-repayable contributions, with a stacking limit of 85%. Projects are must be completed by March 31, 2018.
AgriMarketing Assurance Systems Canadian Government Funding
The Assurance Systems Stream seeks to support the Canadian agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products industry to meet buyer and market demands for assurance and to enhance its competitiveness through support for development of Canadian national assurance systems or standards, such as food safety systems, animal and plant health surveillance systems, market attribute/quality standards and traceability systems, and their related tools. The Assurance Systems Stream of Canada small business grants offers up to $1 million per project with a minimum of 25% company contributions, 15% of which must be cash contributions. Please note that projects cannot be more than 85% supported via government funding. Projects that receive grant funding for business through this stream are also to be completed by March 31, 2018.
