Funding through Canadian Government Grants Helps Keep 750 Jobs in Windsor-Essex

Still reeling from the recent closure of the Heinz plant, the people of Leamington, Ontario received good news in the form of a funding announcement from the federal government. Investments of up to $200,000 to the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation will support existing food processing businesses while attracting new investment to the region.

The investment will help maintain an estimated 750 full-time jobs in the sector. The funding contribution was announced today the Minister of State for FedDev Ontario, Gary Goodyear, along with two local members of parliament from Leamington, Ontario on November 13, 2014.

Investing in Regional Diversification Initiative Supports Southern Ontario Economy

FedDev Ontario’s contribution is the first under the Investing in Regional Diversification initiative, which is aimed at attracting businesses, investments and jobs to southern Ontario’s communities.

• Amount: Grant for up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $20 million.
• Timeline: Open now; Continuous intake.
• Eligibility: Non-profit in Southern Ontario whose mandate includes economic development.
• Projects: Diversification of regional economy; Capacity building activities; Business infrastructure initiatives.
