Canadian Government Funding: NSERC-College and Community Innovation Enhancement Grant
The Innovation Enhancement (IE) Grant is one of 6 different small business grants available under The College and Community Innovation (CCI) Program. It focuses on discovering business-driven challenges and opportunities through applied research. This Canadian government funding for research and development program is offered to colleges with the intention of enhancing their applied research capacity and technology transfer activities in collaboration with small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The central criteria in the partnership and research should be regional innovation.
“The ultimate goal is to create sustainable partnerships that will help sharpen our innovative edge and have a positive impact on the bottom line of our country and industry.”
-Suzanne Fortier, President of NSERC
IE motivates the coming together of expertise of different fields such as natural sciences and engineering, social sciences and humanities, and health sciences. The applied research made possible by this government funding for business should be in a field where the college has expertise and that meets regional needs with a potential of economic development in the community.
