The Canadian Government realizes the potential of the region and offers several funding incentives for Canadian organizations to undertake R&D activities in the area.
NSERC Engage – $25K Grant Funding for Collaborative R&D with Universities
NSERC Engage provides up to $25k in non-repayable funding grants to support business and university collaborations for short-term research and development projects. Eligible projects have a 6-month timeline and should result in the development of innovative technological solution to a challenge experienced by the industry partner.
Going Global Innovation (GGI) – $75K Grant for International Partnerships
The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) provides up to $75k in non-refundable grants to support the establishment of international R&D partnerships in order to develop an innovative product or technology for the Canadian market. The program provides a project funding contribution of up to 75% for the eligible travel and meeting expenses.
iSTEM/Graduate Enterprise Internship (GEI) – $15K Hiring Grant for Science & Engineering Graduates
Businesses can receive from $10k to $15k in wage subsidies for the hiring of a recent post-secondary graduate of a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) related program to assist with any R&D project. The program covers up to 50% of the salary and benefits for up to six months. Hiring graduates with a Bachelors degree allows for $10K maximum funding and Masters/Ph.D graduate create a maximum allocation of $15K grant funding per intern.
