Canadian Government Funding for Temporary Work Placements
The Federal Internship for Newcomers (FIN) Program is a relatively new Canadian Government funding incentive that provides new Canadians with valuable temporary work experience with federal government departments.
Federal Internship for Newcomers Program
Eligible candidates will be hired for 90 business days and may be provided the option of extending their internships for an additional 90 working days. Participants will have an opportunity to work within governmental and private organizational departments including, but not limited to:
- Policy Administration
- Project Management
- Computer Science
- Information Communication Technologies
These internships are intended to provide Canadian immigrants with valuable work experience and allow them to learn about the hiring processes and Canadian workplace culture.
FIN Hiring Program Eligibility Factors
Unfortunately, private organizations and businesses are not eligible to apply for internship positions through FIN. Applicants looking to participate in an internship with a federal organization must fall under the following criteria:
- Permanent resident or Canadian citizen
- Lived in Canada for less than 10 years
- Have the necessary language abilities in one of the official languages (English or French)
- Have a post-secondary degree
- Live or work within a 125km radius of Ottawa/Gatineau, Toronto, and Vancouver.
