CME Canada Makes: New Additive Manufacturing Network

Following the late 2014 launch of the CME SMART Advanced Technologies for Global Growth grant program, the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) association has unveiled their new additive manufacturing network, Canada Makes. As the largest industry and trade associate in Canada, CME provides support services, resources, and incentives to ensure that Canadian manufacturers stay competitive both domestically and abroad.

Canada Makes Connects Manufacturers to Advanced Technologies

In cooperation with the Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT) center at Sheridan College, three collaborative manufacturing workshops will be held. These workshops will aid and permit research and development advances that were previously inaccessible to SME’s in Canada. The first workshop was held on October 16, 2014, with more to come throughout 2015. Future events and registration can be found on the Canada Makes website.

Discover Advanced Technologies via CME Canada Makes

These sessions enable small and medium sized manufacturers to explore the newest technological advances pertinent to their sector. As Canada Makes continues to grow, the network will extend itself into other manufacturing sectors, including 3D printing, and printable electronics.

The workshops target established members of the Canadian manufacturing industry and students working towards degrees and diplomas in the sector. In order to attend upcoming workshops, individuals must register for a membership with Canada Makes. The network offers three tiers of membership via Start-up, Professional, and Leadership plans.

Receive Canadian Business Grants for Adopting Advanced Technologies

Once businesses have identified their preferred additive manufacturing technology, CME also offers Ontario business grants towards the adoption of advanced technologies. Through CME SMART, established southern Ontario manufacturers can receive up to 35% or $100,000 towards their capital expenditures. Projects must be focused on export expansion.

“SMEs gain access to equipment they otherwise couldn’t afford and benefit from product and process innovation…”
