Canadian Business Grants for Northern Ontario Youth Internships

The regional development organization for Northern Ontario (FedNor) provides Canadian Government funding grants for small business to hire recent graduates and expand their workforce. The Youth Internship program is offered as a segment of the Northern Ontario Development Program (NODP) for accelerating the economic development of Northern Ontario Communities.

FedNor Youth Internship Program – Funding Details

The Youth Internship program provides Northern Ontario grant funding for small business to hire recent young graduates for integral positions related to their field of study. Funding conditions may depend on the size and type of organization and can be described as follows:

• Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) can receive up to $27,500 or 90% of the salary and employee benefits for hiring recent post-secondary grads in a full-time position for up to 12 months.
• Small-Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) can apply for up to $27,500 or 50% of the salary, travel, training and employee benefits for hiring recent post-secondary grads in a full-time position for up to 12 months.

The intentions of the Youth Internship are to provide Canadian graduates with mentorship and professional skills development opportunities while strengthening the size and integrity of the Northern Ontario workforce.

FedNor Youth Internship Program – Eligible Candidates

Organizations looking to hire recent graduates through this program must be located in Northern Ontario and able to demonstrate their intentions to mentor and provide future employment opportunities for the candidate after the 12-month internship is completed. Eligible candidates must be under the age of 30 and have received a degree, diploma, or program certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution within the past 3 years.
