The Plant-Based Protein Innovation Capacity Building Funding supports Canadian plant-based forward-thinking companies and organizations to develop projects that will transform our industry and help realize Canada’s agri-food potential. This program has another stream of funding called the Plant-Based Protein Innovation Technology Funding.

Amount of Funding
Chosen projects will receive up to 50% funding for eligible project costs.
Plant-Based Protein Innovation Capacity Building Funding
Eligible Applicants
- Must have at least two Protein Industries Canada (PIC) members contributing to the project;
- At least one must be a SME with fewer than 500 employees and less than $50 million in annual gross revenues;
- Encouraged, but not necessary to incorporate an academic or research institution;
- All project participants must contribute in a meaningful way with at least two project partners contributing financially;
- Must be Canadian companies, or multi-national corporations who are legally entitled to do business in Canada with a significant Canadian business operation; and
- All project contributors must be PIC members. Membership is $500/organization.

Eligible Activities
Will support growth and help build capability in the sector and strengthen our ecosystem in seven key priority areas:
- Labour, Skills and Access to Talent;
- Regulatory Modernization;
- Data and ICT Management;
- Intellectual Property Literacy;
- Infrastructure;
- Access to Capital; and
- Global Brand and International Engagement.

Program Deadline
Open two-stage application process including an Expression of Interest (EOI) and, if called forward, a full application. Approved EOIs can transition to a full application/proposal.
