Plant-Based Protein AI Project Funding
Eligible Applicants
Applicants may be eligible for funding if they meet the following criteria:
- Must have at least two Protein Industries Canada (PIC) members contributing to the project
- At least one must be a SME with fewer than 500 employees and less than $50 million in annual gross revenues
- Encouraged, but not necessary to incorporate an academic or research institution
- All project participants must contribute in a meaningful way with at least two project partners contributing financially
- Must be Canadian companies, or multi-national corporations who are legally entitled to do business in Canada with a significant Canadian business operation
- All project contributors must be PIC members. Membership is $500/organization
Plant-Based Protein AI Project Funding
Eligible Activities
Projects may be eligible if they follow these requirements:
- Project: designed to help individual companies within the plant-based food, feed and ingredient ecosystem incorporate AI as a core business function.
- System: will focus on overall sector competitiveness (ex. Consortium of plant-based food companies looking to iterate new products faster and improve consumer acceptance)
- Community: will help ensure that benefits of AI application in the plant-based food space are achieving societal benefits.

Program Deadline
Open two-stage application process including an Expression of Interest (EOI) and, if called forward, a full application. Approved EOIs can transition to a full application/proposal
